"The prodigiously talented Jeffery Renard Allen is without question one of our most important writers." - Junot Diaz
New Dublin Press and the James Joyce Centre are delighted to bring you a reading by the acclaimed American novelist and poet Jeffery Renard Allen on Friday 20 January 2017.
A recent Guggenheim fellow, Allen is Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Virginia. He is the author of five books, most recently the novel Song of the Shank (Graywolf Press, 2014), which is loosely based on the life of nineteenth century African American piano virtuoso Blind Tom. The novel was widely acclaimed, winning a place in the final of the PEN/Faulkner Award, a nomination for the Dublin Literary Prize and going on to win the CLMP's Firecracker Award. Allen is also the author of two other works of fiction, the novel Rails Under my Back (Farrar, Strauss & Giroux, 2000) and the short story collection Holding Pattern (Graywolf Press, 2008), as well as two books of poetry.
